Floor Plan
Should have posted the floor plan much earlier. Strangely, despite it being drawn to scale, it isn't to scale when I did an on-site measurement.

Tiling Works
Tiling has commenced! Quite pleased so far with the tiling work in the toilet.
No highlight walls - I hope I made the right decision! |
One toilet wall is tiled! |
The 3-D drawings were sent to me last night. Rather pleased with the work. Just need to discuss minor carpentry details with my ID.

Live and Let Live
After feeling infuriated for the entire night, I decided perhaps I should be more tolerant to mistakes. My ID gave me his word that the drawings will be ready by today and they should be close to what I have in mind. It's like the Yellow Ribbon project. -ack-
Anyway, below are pics of my first apartment done by Alice of Sky Creation in July 2009. Nothing too fanciful. Simple, functional, and limited by budget.
457 sqft - It's huge coz it's open concept.

Kitchen - Gloss laminate. Hood, Hob, & Oven from Teka. Bought the same model for my current apt as well. |
Teka Induction Hob |
Bathtub. Threw the idea out of the window for my current apartment. No time to soak. |
Simple. Limited by space. |
The kitchen. Decided not to have a fridge base this time round. I don't quite understand why there is a need for fridge base. Who on earth washes the kitchen with buckets of water these days? |
Varnished floor in mahogany. Will have that colour for my current place too. Can't remember where I got the blinds from. I think some shop in Furniture Mall. |

Hack it!
This is a delayed post coz work + renovation = nightmare + pimples. Very naise.
Tiles from Hafary are in. I bought the Italian tiles coz there is a difference if you put PRC tiles beside European tiles. I chose one colour (sugar rett) for the entire house, just different sizes - 59.7.7x59.7 for living and kitchen, and 29.7x59.7 for toilet and yard. ID wanted to use a different colour to highlight one wall at the shower area but I don't want. No specific reasons, just don't like the idea.
Some pics of the electrical works:
Anyway. Hacking commenced last Thursday and by Tuesday, the debris were cleared.

On Wednesday, Aron's installation team came by to install the aircon piping. Very neat work and very professional. Prior to installation, Aron came by to advise me on how his team would run the piping. Very nice of him to squeeze me in his tight schedule (means his business damn good larh!). So far so good. Will comment when the aircon system is up.

Aircon piping in living room/dining. Stupid beam. |

Exposed trunking coz of beam in living room. But gonna be plastered so I don't mind. |
Trunking where the compressor will be. Gonna paint it else management will scream. |

Sugar Rett. Sweet. |
Electrical works have began. Like many who are quite troubled over openet exposed trunking, I'm just as bothered. Decide to have it concealed. Such cost just need to spend one time larh. No point saving. I can't quite decide on the location of the electrical points on the ceiling. No cove or false ceiling other than toilet and kitchen. Why no false ceiling? Coz I like the present high ceiling. I don't intend to have a ceiling/hanging light in the bedroom coz I prefer the ceiling to remain 'clean'.

The electrician wanted to purchase the electrical casing (if that's what it's called) for me but nay, I rather go to CCM and buy them. The joy of shopping isn't it? Went to the one at Bendemeer and Ah Pao attended to me. Friendly chap. But I don't know how many I should buy so I'm waiting for my ID to tell me. Most likely this weekend will make my purchase.
Okay, tiling work begins tomorrow! More on it when I have pics!

Reviews:
1) Eurostar Lighting
I was particularly impressed with Vanessa of Eurostar Lighting. She was really patient in explaining to me the differences between LED and PLC and what suits my needs. As I'm not intending to install any ceiling/pendant light in my room, I need a floor lamp to provide ambient and accent light. Vanessa flipped through her catalogs and showed me one which I like! It's gonna arrive early Jan which is in time for my new place!
2) Lighting Centre
The sales assistants in Lighting Centre (not the one above Macs) left an impression too - they were awfully rude. They give you the "if you aren't buying, don't ask" look. I walked out and vowed never to go back.
3) Philips (Lighting.com)
The sales associates in Philips (Balestier and New World branches) were friendly and offered good advice. Jess attended to me and I'm gonna buy from her.
4) Chan Huat
There are three(!) in Balestier. Too many downlights there and it's way too messy (and crowded) for my liking. I don't even know where to start. Well, I bought a 2ft light ($45) for my yard though. I will be returning to Eurostar to get LED downlight for my kitchen and toilet and floor lamp for bedroom. Also going to Philips to get LED light for foyer and hanging light for Breakkie counter.

EZ Living Clothesline Specialist
Met up with Angeline from EZ Living for a quotation. Was deciding between TAME, EZ Living and Home Niche but finally decided to install the EZ Lift from EZ Living. Had wanted to get the EZ lift two years ago for my previous apartment but was told by a staff that it cannot be installed on false ceiling. Angeline, the director(!), came to my apartment today to give me a quotation for my current apartment. She said that their systems can be installed on false ceiling! Boy, I could have gotten that two years back instead of using the folding type from Ikea! She told me that her company is installing the clothes system for the entire project in The Gale!
Reasons for choosing EZ Living:
1) IMHO Better system - coz it's a pulley system with a chain instead of rope (Tame and Home Niche are the rope type).
2) Efficient service provided by Angeline! Very professional.
3) Very competitive price compared to quotation given by Home Niche and Tame.
Visit their webby: EZ Living - The Clotheslines Specialist
Gonna install in Jan. Will provide feedback on the installation process!
